The Department of Physics is one of the oldest departments in this Institution. Excellence in teaching and research has been the hallmark of the Department. The faculty members of the department are involved in innovative research. Research in the department ranges across the most challenging problems in condensed-matter physics, materials science, thin film physics, nanoscience and nanotechnology, photovoltaics and computational materials science. The research work carried out in the department has been published in a number of national and international journals resulting in good number of citations of our work.
Departmental laboratory is equipped with sophisticated instruments like, atomic force microscope, spectrophotometer, Hall effect measurement system and photo luminescence arrangement. The department has received funds for about of Rs.75 lakhs from different government funding agencies like DST, UGC and AICTE
The Department has received funds of about Rs.90 lakhs from different Indian government funding agencies like DST, UGC, CSIR and AICTE. The Department has received funds to the tune of about Rs.50 lakhs from Research Council of Norway to carry out research and for student exchange programme.
