Department of Humanities

The Department of Humanities was inaugurated in 1957. The subjects offered by the department are English and Economics. With B.E course structured into four year course, English was taught for the I and II year students. Later, when B.E course was made into a four year course, technical English is offered for the I year class and Economics is offered for the final year B.E, B.Tech classes. Apart from technical English, communication skills are also taught for III year MCA, MSE software and MSC computer technology classes which enhance placement and increased their placement prospects.

Several innovations were incorporated into the department after its inception in its syllabus and curriculum. The department had its face lift with the setting up of state of art language laboratory in 2005, focusing on four skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) of the students in a perfect manner.


An MOU was signed with the British council in 2004 which paved the path for offering the Business English Communication (BEC) course in collaboration with the British Council by the department. The course holds an international bench marking and it is recognized across the globe. CIT is the recognized center for conducting BEC exams. Another MOU was signed with Sutherland Global Services for conducting Training Sessions for Faculty and students on Interview Skills, Group Communication and Teaching of English Pronunciation, Grammar and right Accent.

Presently, the department is headed by Ms. P. Santhi and twelve well-experienced staff members with a strong desire for innovative appraoch.
