ONE DAY NATIONAL WORKSHOP ON

“MODERN CONCRETING TECHNIQUES”

REPORT

                Department of Civil Engineering, Coimbatore Institute of Technology (CIT), Coimbatore, Industry Institute Partnership Cell (Sponsored by AICTE) and RMC Readymix (India) jointly organized a one day national workshop on “MODERN CONCRETING TECHNIQUES” held on February 24, 2011. The workshop received overwhelming response from Civil Engineering community across the state. A total number of 339 participants which includes 20 Faculties, 24 practicing Civil Engineers and 295 Students participated in the workshop.

                The workshop was inaugurated by Sri. R. RAJENDRAN, Business Manager, RMC Readymix (India), Coimbatore with the august presence of Dr. V. SELLADURAI, Principal, CIT and Dr. K. SUBRAMANIAN, Professor and Head of Civil Engineering, CIT at CIT

                                The morning session of the workshop started with a lecture delivered by Sri. R. RAJENDRAN, Business Manager, RMC Readymix (India) was wonderful on “CONCRETE TECHNOLOGY – BASIC PER VIEW”, the way in which he gave ideas to produce good quality concrete with the latest technologies. The next technical lecture was delivered by Dr. K. SUBRAMANIAN, Professor and Head of Civil Engineering, CIT on “CONCRETE MIX DESIGN PROCEDURE AS PER IS-10262:2009” was very informative in which the difference between the existing and the revised codes were well understood by the participants.  The final technical talk in the morning session was delivered by Er. C. RAVIKUMAR, Deputy Technical Manager, RMC Readymix (India) on “REACHING NEW HORIZON IN CONCRETE”, on recently developed concretes was appreciated very well by almost all the participants.

                The participants were taken to RMC Readymix (India) Plant, Coimbatore in the afternoon session. Sri. G. VEERSANKAR, Senior Technical Officer, RMC Readymix (India) explained the components and operations of the RMC plant. Er. C. RAVIKUMAR, Deputy Technical Manager, explained the process of producing different types of modern concretes like light weight concrete and geopolymer concrete. The workshop was of more inspiration and beneficial to Civil Engineering community.

                The workshop valedictory held at RMC Readymix (India) Plant, Coimbatore. Mr. M. P. MUTHURAJ, Organizing Secretary and Assistant Professor in Civil Engineering, CIT thanked the participants. The participants felt that the workshop was of more inspiration and beneficial to Civil Engineering community.
